TaxACT 2000 Preview Versions Released

TaxACT 2000, the third edition of the popular FREE tax preparation software, is now available in preview form on the Internet.

Marion, Iowa -- 2nd Story Software, Inc., a computer software developer based in Marion, Iowa, announces the release of TaxACT 2000 Standard Preview -- now available as a free download at http://www.taxact.com. TaxACT 2000 Standard Preview is a full-featured alternative to similar higher-priced tax software packages currently available to consumers.

The free product contains the most common forms and schedules and calculates returns as data is entered. Users can prepare their returns with the Standard Preview Edition, then import the data directly into TaxACT 2000 Standard Final Edition, which is scheduled for release in January 2001. The Final version will also be free and allow users to prepare, print and file a paper return. Electronic filing is available for a nominal fee of $7.95.

"Response to the free TaxACT Standard has been outstanding since we introduced the product three years ago," says Lance Dunn, President of 2nd Story Software. "We have received many letters of thanks for making a FREE tax program available for download. And due to the overwhelming customer response and success of TaxACT, we are continuing to offer our Standard Edition for FREE."

TaxACT is available for Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000, offering over 80 forms, schedules and worksheets that consumers may need to complete their taxes. Users are encouraged to download the Preview version to get a jump-start on their 2000 taxes. All information entered into the Preview version transfers to the Final version.

TaxACT is also available in a Deluxe Preview Edition for those customers with more complicated taxes. TaxACT Deluxe can be downloaded for only $9.95 and includes one free federal e-file. Unlike some competitors, the free e-file is completely free and does not require users to pay a fee then send a mail-in rebate. State Editions, only $12.95 each, will release in January 2001 for every state that assesses state income tax.
