TaxACT 2000 Federal Final Versions Released

TaxACT 2000, the third edition of the popular FREE tax preparation software, is now available on the Internet.

Marion, Iowa -- 2nd Story Software, Inc., a computer software developer based in Marion, Iowa, announces the release of TaxACT 2000 Standard Edition -- now available as a free download at http://www.taxact.com. TaxACT 2000 Standard Edition is a full-featured alternative to similar higher-priced tax software packages currently available to consumers.

Consumers can visit the company’s web site, http://www.taxact.com, download TaxACT 2000 directly to their home computer, and complete their 2000 tax return – all at absolutely no charge.

"Response to the free TaxACT Standard has been outstanding since we introduced the product three years ago," says Lance Dunn, President of 2nd Story Software. "We have received many letters of thanks for making a FREE tax program available for download. And due to the overwhelming customer response and success of TaxACT, we are continuing to offer our Standard Edition for FREE."

TaxACT for Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000 offers over 100 forms, schedules and worksheets that consumers may need to complete their taxes. Users have the option of entering data using the Interview process, or entering directly onto the tax forms.

As the return is being completed, the program automatically audits the return and alerts the user of missing data. When finished, users can print IRS-approved forms and schedules and mail their return, or file electronically. Electronic filing cuts down on errors and also speeds the processing of returns and refunds. The latest IRS Self-Selected PIN program is supported in TaxACT. Federal e-file is only $7.95 per return.

In addition to the free product, TaxACT is available in a Deluxe Edition, 43 State Editions, and a Preparer’s Edition.

TaxACT Deluxe is $9.95 when downloaded. The Deluxe includes the same features as the Standard, plus:

  • Free e-file. Users receive one free federal e-file, a $7.95 value, with TaxACT Deluxe. No rebates or coupons required.
  • TaxACT Deluxe allows a user to prepare an unlimited number of paper returns (limit of 5 e-file returns per IRS regulations).
  • Tax Advisors offer additional help regarding specific tax topics that may affect the user's return.
  • And more!

TaxACT State Editions are $12.95 per state and are available for all 43 states that assess state income tax. Information entered into any of the federal programs automatically transfers into the state forms, so there is no duplication of effort for the user. State electronic filing is available for 18 states at only $4.95 per return.

TaxACT Preparer’s Edition, priced at only $79, is tailored to the needs of professional tax preparers. The Preparer’s Edition includes client management features, such as one location to enter the preparer’s name, client organizers, client invoicing, mailing labels, and client letters.
