Protect Yourself from Phishing Schemes

Here's what you need to know as it relates to how 2nd Story Software will and will not communicate with you:

  1. No Unsolicited E-mails Requesting Personal Information - Unless you have initiated contact with our customer service department and have provided required information that verifies your identity, 2nd Story will NEVER request via e-mail that you provide, verify, or update personally identifiable information or financial data, such as: your Social Security number, mailing address, login or password, credit card information, tax-related information, etc.
  2. Image E-mails - Some phishing e-mails are simply screen captures of legitimate e-mails with a link to a Web site designed to steal your information. If you've clicked a link from an e-mail and the address in the address bar at the top of your browser doesn't match the usual address for the site or login page, it is very likely that the e-mail is an instrument attempting to harvest your personal information.
  3. E-mail Properties - Some phishing e-mails will look completely legitimate except that the return address does not match the company that is supposedly sending the e-mail. Always check the e-mail properties of an e-mail to ensure the return address is authentic.
  4. Contact Information - Legitimate e-mails sent to TaxACT customers come with multiple forms of contact information, including e-mail, telephone (1-800 number), and street address information. Any e-mail which doesn't include multiple methods to contact 2nd Story Software are not legitimate.
  5. Urgent Requests - Most phishing e-mails try to rush people into making a bad decision. If you receive an e-mail regarding an important issue such as your account or purchase status, it pays to slow down and collect some information. ALL notices sent to TaxACT users prompting for updated information will direct you to login directly to www.taxact.com or www.taxactonline.com.

If you are ever concerned about the legitimacy of an email, you should feel free to contact our call center at 800-573-4287 or email us at emailmonitor@taxact.com. The safety of your identity and information is of utmost importance to us.
